Gloaming - race horse Australian championGloaming was foaled in 1915 and was by The Welkin out of the mare Light (by Eager)

He was an amazing horse that won 57 races from his 67 starts in Australian and New Zealand, at one stage winning 19 in a row. From his 10 non winning starts he ran second 9 times and amassed £43100 in prize money.

Trained by Dick Mason, his main wins included the Challenge Stakes, Craven Plate, Spring Stakes, Hill Stakes, AJC Derby, New Zealand Derby and Chelmsford Stakes.

The annual Group III Gloaming Stakes over 1,800m contested at Rosehill is named in his honour.
