Hue out of the mare Woodie Wonder (by Newtown Wonder)
He
was a real champion who had 54 starts for 29 wins, 7 seconds
and 8 thirds, winning $280,455 during his racing career.
Regarded
as the champion miler of his generation, some of his wins
included the Epsom
Handicap, Doncaster
Handicap, Toorak
Handicap, Futurity
Stakes, Caulfield Stakes and George Adams Handicap
and Sandown
Cup.
He
also won the WFA Cox Plate in 1972.
He
was trained in the early part of his career by Bill Wehlow
and later by T J Smith.
Known
colloquially as the Goondiwindi Grey, there is a statue
of him at Goondiwindi on the banks of the McIntyre River.
After
racing he stood at Kia Ora Stud and died at age 16.
