A very interesting approach, we looked at over 3000 meetings Australia wide covered by the TAB and were quite interested in the manner in which it consistently threw up winners at long and very long prices.

Overall during the year there were 331 races that Happenings suggested an investment for, encompassing 357 different horses. The winning race strike rate was only 7.9% with an average win dividend of $22.20 with a profit on turnover of over 61% and the place strike rate was 26.9% with an average dividend of $4.70 and a very healthy place betting profit on turnover of 17.2%.

Obvious questions:

Would Betfair have been better? Obviously so. If you want to put in the extra hours and bet race by race, you'll generally always do better. We simply ran it as a set and forget exercise on the TAB.
