Jinx racehorse Melbourne Cup winner
horse Hi Jinx was foaled in 1955 and was by Pride Of Kildare out of
the mare Ladys Bridge (by Foxbridge)
Won about $48,000 in stakes.
In front of a crowd of 101478
people she won 1960 Melbourne Cup at 50/1 carrying the light weight
of 7 stone 10 pounds ridden by W Smith.
In her wake were some great
horses like Tulloch and Dhaulagiri.
Hi Jinx had had only two
previous starts in Australia when finished well back in the Caulfield
Cup and second in the Moonee Valley Cup.
The excitement of the running
of the centenary Melbourne Cup dissipated immediately after they crossed
the line and Hi Jinx came back to what was described as "the
quietest reception ever".
