Luskin
Star was foaled at Luskintyre Stud in 1974 and was by
Kaoru Star out of the New Zealand mare Promising (by Idomeneo)
In
the 1976 Easter yearling sales he was passed in for $6500
under the hammer but was later purchased by trainer Max
Lees for $8000 for stable clients and went on to win $280,900
He
was regarded as a champion sprinter miler who won races
including the Breeders Plate at Randwick, the Silver Slipper
Stakes by 4 and a half lengths, the Todman Slipper Trial
and the Golden Slipper by seven lengths.
He
powered away to win the AJC Sires Produce by 3 lengths
and the Champagne Stakes a week later by 6 lengths.
Venturing
north, he won the QTC Sires Produce and length and nine
days later the Marlboro Stakes by two lengths.
As
a three year old he won the Caulfield Guineas, ran 9th
to Family Of Man in the Cox Plate and went on to win the
Expressway Stakes from Always Welcome by one and a quarter
lengths, won the Phar Lap Stakes and ran second to Lefroy
in the in the Tulloch Stakes. Amazingly he then dropped
back to 1100 metres to win the Galaxy by three lengths
in his last run.
In
his career he started 17 times for an amazing 13 wins
and 3 seconds and was unplaced just once. He died aged
28 in 2002.
At
Newhaven Stud, he sired many notable performers including
Planet Ruler, Mighty Avalanche, Full On Aces, Marquee
Star and Aurealis.
