The Stawell Gift was won by M.M. Bishop of Port Pirie, South Australia, in 12 seconds.

Alan Bond, business man, America's Cup yachting winner, prisoner, was born.

The Stawell Gift was won by T.V. (Tommy) Deane of Wahring, Victoria, in 11 14/16 seconds. The Gift had been abandoned from 1942 - 1945 due to the Second World War.

The Stawell Gift was won by J.R. (Jack) Carr of Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, in 11 8/10 seconds.
