Jockey and trainer John (J J ) Miller was born in Fremantle. Won the Melbourne Cup on Galilee in 1966.

Rugby league star Graeme Langlands announced his retirement from the game - played 34 tests for Australia and 235 games with St George.

Coburg Thirds, 64.28.412 defeated Caulfield 3.3.21 to create a record score line.

Brisbane Broncos captain Allan Langer announced his playing retirement - he returned to the arena shortly afterwards in 2001 in a State of Origin match.
