AFL footballer and coach Terry Wallace was born in Victoria.
Len Lukey won the Gold Star 45 mile race at Phillip Island to win that year's driver's championship.
Cricketer and later Test cricket captain, Greg Chappell, scored a century on debut for Australia in Perth making 108.
Three Australian cricket greats made their Test debut against India....Bruce Reid, Geoff March and Merv Hughes.
In a nail biting 1st Test at the Adelaide Oval, Australia beat India by 48 runs. Nearly 1600 runs were scored over the five days with Australia winning with just a few overs to go. Man of the match was bowler Nathan Lyon who took career best figures of 5/134 and 7/152 to win the match for Australia
