Australian sporting history on this day
The Victorian Athletic Association cancelled all its events saying sport was inappropriate during war times.
Ronald Clarke, Australian athlete, was born, multiple record-breaking distance runner, during a 44 day European tour in 1965 broke 12 world records, bronze and silver medals at Olympic and Commonwealth Games. Former Mayor of Gold Coast Queensland.
Melbourne Cup winner Viewed won his first race at Warwick Farm in Sydney when he won a 3 year old handicap over 1400 metres defeating Ziggurat and starting at $2.80. From 36 starts he had 9 wins, 4 2nds and 33rds for a total prize money win of $6,006,530. His main wins were in the 2008 Melbourne Cup and 2009 Caulfield Cup.
