Cyclist Arthur Richardson finished his 11,000 mile solo bike ride around Australia that began on 6 June 1899.

Western Suburbs Rugby League Club formed in Sydney

The Wagga Soccer Club was formed.
1926
Dave Sands, boxer, was born. Australian heavyweight title holder. Killed in a truck accident near Dungog in NSW in 1952.
1937
John Devitt, Australian 100m freestyle swimmer (Olympic gold 1960), was born.
1939
Discus thrower C Hannon broke the Australian record by throwing 108 feet 10 inches.
1967
At Wanganui racecourse (NZ), Alcharinga, Ellinis and Pearly Shells dead heated for third in the Springvale Handicap.
1984
In a national telethon organised by Network TEN on the weekend of 3-4 February 1984, $6 million was pledged to send Australian athletes to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. But according to the Australian Olympic Federation, only about $1.25 million was actually raised.
1993
The last greyhound racing meeting was held at the Gabba Cricket Ground in Brisbane.
1995
Dean Jones scored 324 not out for Victoria in a Sheffield Shield match against South Australia.
