Paddy Hehr won the inaugural 6 day bike race held at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Murray Rose was born - Olympic medal winning swimmer, won medals '56 and '60 200m to 1500m, voted Australia's greatest male Olympian 1983. (Full name Iain Murray Rose). He died in 2012.
