Wendell Sailor, rugby league and rugby union star, was born.
Adam Scott, golfer, was born in Adelaide; winner of seven PGA tournaments (up to 2012) and winner of the 2013 Masters Tournament in the US on 14 April 2013, the first Masters won by an Australian in its 77-year history.
Pole vaulter Steven Hooker was born; set the Australian record at 6.06 metres.
