Tony Lockett broke the AFL record for career goals, previously 1299 by Gordon Coventry and which had stood since 1937.
Long time Brisbane race caller, Wayne Wilson, died aged 66 ater a 15 year battle with cancer. He retired from race calling in 2010. He is the only person to be inducted into both the Queensland Racing Hall of Fame and the Queensland Harness Racing Hall of Fame and was the only Queensland based broadcaster to call both the Melbourne Cup (2002) and Golden Slipper (2003).
