Alexander "Jock" Sturrock, America's Cup skipper and champion yachtsman, was born, won over 400 national and state yachting championships, Australian of the Year in 1962. He died in 1997.
Brian Andrews, jockey, born in Auckland, Caulfiled Cup / Sydney Cup winner
Frederick Lane, swimmer, died. He was the first to represent Australia in swimming at an Olympic Games, won 2 gold Medals 1900 Paris.
Gary Ablett Jr, Australian rules footballer, was born in Modewarre, Victoria - he was the Brownlow medal winner in 2009 and 2013.
Susie Maroney became the first person to swim unassisted from Cuba to the USA.
