1930	Amy Johnson, the first woman to fly solo from England, arrived in Darwin, in the Northern Territory.
1976	Catherine Cox, Australian netballer, was born. Gold (2007) and silver (2003) medalist Netball World Championships, gold (2002) and silver (2006, 2010) Commonwealth Games.
1989	The Sydney to Melbourne ultra marathon was won by Greek runner Yiannis Kouros for the 4th time in a new record of 5 days, 2 hours, 27 minutes 27 seconds.
