Australian sporting history on this day
Jockey Neville Voigt born in Tamworth, won the Doncaster Handicap on Bye Bye in 1969 beating All Aged Stakes winner Foresight and 1968 Doomben Cup winner Sandy's Hope.
Rodger Davis won the British PGA golf championship.
Joel Selwood, Australian footballer, was selected All-Australian 2009 and 2010.
Queensland paramotoring champion Chris Atkinson, at the age of 40, crashed to his death on a turf farm near Atkinson Dam at Lowood while on a joy flight with friends.  He had just heard he had beaten his own world record for flying 353 kilometres in four hours on limited fuel.
Jockey Kevin Mitchell died aged 84. As a 55 year-old grandfather he famously won the 1984 Doncaster Handicap on Vite Cheval.
