1984	A tearful Kim Hughes resigned as Australia's cricket captain, breaking down at a press conference.
1996	Dame Joan Hammond, NSW golf champion, died aged 84. She also established a wide international following as a soprano on stage and as a recording artist. By by 1946 was singing all the major soprano roles in Europe, the United States and Australia.
2009	Swimmer Ashley Callus set an Australian record time of 21.19 for the 50 metre freestyle at a meet in Canberra
