1894	Sydney Cup winner in 1896, Wallace, won his first race at Flemington.
1905	Blue Spec, ridden by Frank Bullock, won the Melbourne Cup. He had previously won the Perth and Kalgoorlie Cups.
1920	St George Rugby League Club was formed.
1943	Jumps jockey Kevin Wynne born in Leongatha in Victoria
1961	Lord Fury led all the way to win the Melbourne Cup at 20/1 becoming the first horse to lead throughout the race. The Victorian TAB held £244,264 on the race.
1967	Red Handed won the Melbourne Cup by a neck from Red Crest.
1976	Test cricket player Brett Lee born
1978	Ken Warby again broke the world speed water record at Blowering Dam in Tumut - this time he went 511.11 kilometres an hour.
1999	Karrie Webb was named LPGA Golfer of the Year.
2004	Eddie Charlton, snooker champion, died aged 75.
