South Melbourne, now the Sydney Swans, won its first VFL premiership defeating Carlton 4.14.38 to 4.12.36.
Ray Lindwall, cricketer, was born.

The AJC Derby was won by wayward starter Manfred when he gave the field half a furlong start and still beat them home. He was still trailing the field by 25 yards at the mile post!
