Civic Pride (by Ajax)
The interestingly named
Pride Of Egypt was actually bred by L B Israel and won the 1954 VRC
Derby and St Leger and AJC St Leger and Rosehill Guineas and the
1954 Hobartville
Stakes.
He is one of the longest
priced horses to win a feature race, one of the shortest priced to
get beaten in a Group 1 race and one of the shortest ever to win a
feature race.
He won the Hobartville at
50/1, got beaten at 6/1 on in the QTC
Derby when second to The
Wash and won at 25/1 on ($1.04)
when he won the AJC St Leger.
He was then sent to race
in the USA and died there in 1968.
