Fury was foaled in 1949 and was by Alonzo out of the mare
Faster (by Mr Standfast)
In
his illustrious career he started 68 times for 24 wins,
17 seconds and 2 thirds. As well as his Melbourne
Cup, he won 17 other stakes races, mostly Group 1,
including two Caulfield
Cups and a Cox
Plate for a prize money haul of £66,765.
He
also won the Mackinnon
Stakes in 1954 and 1955, the Turnbull
Stakes, Queen
Elizabeth Stakes (twice), Blamey
Stakes, CF
Orr Stakes, John Feehan Handicap and Caulfield Stakes.
Rising
Fast is in both the New Zealand Hall of Fame and Australian
Hall of Fame.
When
Rising Fast retired, the Moonee Valley Racing Club held
a special farewell for the champion, who strode up the
straight with a garland of flowers around his neck, while
the band played "The Maori Farewell."
