The
Port Lincoln Racing Club dates
back to the early 1920's with
popular picnic styled race meetings
conducted at Coomunga, land that
is now rich in agricultural produce
to the region. The
Port Lincoln and North Shields
Racing Club relocated to its present
location in 1946 with thoroughbred
racing today conducted under the
business name of Port Lincoln
Racing Club Incorporated. Ravendale
Park Racecourse, situated on 36.88
hectares is located on Proper
Bay Road, four (4) kilometres
south of the city's CBD. Picturesque
and scenic views of Proper Bay
provide an attractive backdrop
for patrons from a variety of
vantage positions on the racecourse.
The race clubs prestigious Port
Lincoln Cup Carnival held annually
in March is a major highlight
of the clubs racing season. This
week long event provides patrons
with two traditional days of racing,
Tuesday and Thursday, combined
with a host of popular non raceday
activities throughout the carnival
period.
