REFLECTIONS was tested by us on this website with daily tips published in advance in June and July 2008 and the headline results are as follows:

•  Over 750 races were considered

•  153 bets were undertaken

•  43 winners at a strike rate of 28%

•  78 place getters at a strike rate of 51%

BETFAIR
•  Level stakes win betting ($10 per bet - profit on turnover 81.11%)

$300 bank became $1541 after 153 bets

•  Level stakes place betting ($10 per bet - profit on turnover 10.3%)

$300 bank became $458 after 153 bets

UNITAB
•  Level stakes win betting ($10 per bet - profit on turnover 70%)

$300 bank became $1371 after 153 bets

•  Level stakes place betting ($10 per bet - profit on turnover 0.6%)

$300 bank became $301 after 153 bets

This system comprises a few hard and fast elimination rules combined with a class assessment over rider that provides a good flow of regular winners ranging from favouritism through to outsiders.

It has been devised for the smaller punter who still likes a good number of bets but refuses any more to take part in those "silly" bets that cost us all money in the long run.

The test results were based on level stakes betting - not a progressive staking plan as we wanted a conservative approach for this methodology. The Betfair results were better than the Unitab dividends especially for those of you that like place betting - the trade off of course is that with a TAB account you can "set and forget" - to get the better Betfair pay outs you have to be at the computer all afternoon.

The whiz kids tell me that, with a conservative 2% of bank variable approach, the win amount is substantially more on our Unitab account but my preference is still for level stakes - again, with a 2% of bank approach you need to be involved all afternoon and I simply have too much other stuff to do for that level of commitment - if you have the afternoons free it could be quite an attractive proposition for you.
