A few years ago, the following stats were published in a local punting magazine which they said were the results of a 5000+ sample of races in Australia. They make for interesting reading, particularly if you like putting your own systems together

31% of all winners had raced in the previous 7 days

36% of all winners had raced in the previous 8 to 14 days

71% of all winners had run 1, 2 or 3 at their last start

77% of all winners were in the tipster's top 6
